Big picture: The commission shall work to deliver an analytical framework to understand the effects of technological change and the longer societal consequences of emerging technologies. The commission and associated scientists shall give definitive recommendations for how, in the short and medium term, technology may help reinvigorating democratic processes and reconnect citizens with institutions. A report shall be published in the autumn of 2019.
Topics to be considered:
- The effect of social media on public discourse
- The potential transformative effects of automation on the nature of work
- The potential to revitalize liberal democracy
Worth noting: The project is supported by Janus Friis, the co-founder of Skype.
